Mexico: Processed Foods Leading to Serious Health Problems

Diabetes and related conditions such as obesity lead to more than 170,000 deaths a year in Mexico, a figure that has increased since Mexico adopted neoliberal policies 20 years ago, displacing locally produced foods with cheaper processed products. The consumption of sugar, especially in beverages, has brought about extremely negative health impacts, especially among the poorest sectors of society.
