Argentina: Infant Mortality on the Rise in Buenos Aires

Infant mortality is on the rise in the city of Buenos Aires although vast improvements have been made at the national level. 8.5 infant deaths per 1000 children were registered in 2013. The statistics are worse in the city’s poorest districts, where children are three times more likely to die in the first year of life than on the city’s wealthy northern side. Even so, the 2014 budget for the city’s children’s hospital was cut by US$12.3 million and in 2015, US$25 million more, assuring that the situation will worsen. Leo Poblete reports from Buenos Aires for teleSUR.
