On 28 October 2007, American composer of Italian origin Angelo Badalamenti was off to London to record the score for John Maybury’s film titled "The Edge of Love". Unique to the score were a number of original songs composed by Badalamenti together with Maybury and artists considered for those songs included Beth Rowley, Patrick Wolf, Siouxsie Sioux and Madeline Peyroux.
The actual film "The Edge of Love" starring Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller, Cillian Murphy and Matthew Rhys premiered on 18 June 2008 in "Edinburgh International Film Festival". A private VIP party was held on 19 June 2008 at the Berkeley Hotel in London, attended by John Maybury and Siouxsie Sioux amongst others. The two has been good friends since long (Maybury illustrated the band portraits on 1979 JOIN HANDS Lp and Siouxsie appeared in his short film "Court of Miracles" in 1982).
The OST of the film was released on 16 June 2008 on Universal's "Classics and Jazz" label including an original song titled "Careless Love", written by Maybury and Badalamenti specifically for the film and uniquely performed by Siouxsie Sioux.
On 18 October 2008, composer Angelo Badalamenti was the central guest of the 8th edition of the "World Soundtrack Awards", the closing event of the "Flanders International Film Festival" in Ghent, Belgium where he received the prestigious "World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award" from the hands of singer Marianne Faithfull.
Following the awards ceremony, Angelo Badalamenti played the piano and synthesizers, performing an unforgettable one hour-long retrospective of his work with conductor Dirk Brossé and the Brussels Philharmonic. The ceremony and the concert were attended by world famous composers such as James Newton Howard, Dario Marianelli, David Arnold, Clint Mansell, and Trevor Jones.
Badalamenti's special guest vocalists were Beth Rowley and Siouxsie Sioux. Siouxsie sang music from two films: "Who Will Take My Dreams Away" (originally by Marianne Faithfull) from Marc Caro & Jean-Pierre Jeunet's film "The City of Lost Children (La Cité des Enfants Perdu)" (1995) and the aforementioned "Careless Love" from John Maybury’s film "The Edge of Love" (2008).
The Ghent Film Festival continuing its film music series under the name of "For the Record" released on 22 September 2009 a twenty tracks compilation of the best film music by Angelo Badalamenti recorded at the Flagey Studios by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé. That double-cd compilation contained music from various films like "Blue Velvet", "Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles", "Cousins", "La Cité des Enfants Perdu", "The Comfort of Strangers", "Twin Peaks", "Wild at Heart", "The Straight Story", "Mulholland Drive" and "The Edge of Love". On the album, contributions by Marianne Faithfull, Beth Rowley and Dolores O’Riordan can be found, but not by Siouxsie Sioux unfortunately.
