HBO vs Netflix vs Cable: online services streaming past Cable TV
  • 9 years ago
It looks like people are finally getting ready to cut the cord, with Cable TV that is, as more and more Americans are dumping their cable services in exchange for online streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and now HBO.

Netflix has gone from mailing movies to your place to building its own house of original content with more subscribers than any cable network. Netflix has grown its number of subscribers from 33 million to 57.4 million, and increased revenue from $3.6 billion to $5.5 billion. Netflix is now making shows so good it literally gets people off their feet.

But while Netflix is trying to become the next HBO, HBO is trying to become the new Netflix by announcing a stand-alone streaming service with a major assist from Apple, and just in time for the start of Game of Thrones.

Cable TV won't go down without a fight, but is it already too late? Can HBO's blood and boobs take down Netflix? Or will the future see us all waiting for the Netflix guy?
