El Chapo Guzman prison break: El Chapo says adios to maximum security prison, again
  • 9 years ago
SANTA JUANA, MEXICO — Mexico has launched an all-out manhunt for its most powerful drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, after he escaped from a maximum security prison through a 1-mile tunnel from a small opening in the shower area of his cell, according to Mexican officials.

Guzman is believed to have gotten out through a two-by-two foot hole in his shower, which happened to be in the prison's most secure wing.

The opening in the shower led to a tunnel 30 feet underground and about a mile long. The tunnel was hooked up with lighting, ventilation and a motorcycle on rails that was most likely used to transport the dirt out of the tunnel. The tunnel led to a construction site with a tiny house in the neighborhood of Santa Juanita.

Authorities think construction on the compound began some time in February of 2014, according to satellite photos.

Mexican authorities have started an enormous manhunt, shut down an airport and held 30 prison employees for questioning, including the prison superintendent.

Who knows how long it will be before we see Guzman again. Maybe he's on his way up to pay a little visit to Mr. Trump. We can only hope.
