Madan ( Kishor Kumar) goes to a Zamindar's house seeking monetary help but discovers that its Indu's (Sayeeda Khan) house and runs away. However, he manages to arrange 200 rupees and gets accepted for his college examination.

Apna Haath Jagannath (1960) is a drama movie based on labour issues. This movie tells the story of Dhani Ram, father of Madan who is struggling hard to earn bread and butter for the family. Eventually, Madan starts working as a washer man after facing disappointment for not getting a goverment job. Everybody in his family disowns him due to his 'low profession'. In order to marry off his daughter in a good family, Dhani Ram is compelled to steal money from the same bank he happens to work at. After being proven guilty for the crime, he commits suicide. By that time, Madan has left the village to prove his capability and fulfill his ambitions. After few months when he returns with the first salary of his job, he is shocked to hear about his father's death and decides to take his family along with him. Years of hard work and struggle pay off and Madan builds up a huge laundry business. A series of dramatic incidents occur and finally, Madan's family happily accepts him with the washing job.
