They had promised to never spy on their "close friends and allies", but couldn't prevent themselves, according to some new Wikileaks. Did the US really snoop on Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy and current French President François Hollande? The US embassy, allegedly a secret spy nest, is 300 metres away from the presidential palace. Two years after Edward Snowden's revelations on the scale of US surveillance, and in the light of this new scandal, we look at the consequences of whistleblowing.
