Taylor Swift Battles Apple Music Over 1989 and Wins
  • 9 years ago
There's no more bad blood between Taylor Swift and Apple. After the mega pop star posted an open letter Sunday blasting the tech giant, Apple quickly changed course regarding its new Apple Music streaming service. The company was offering a three-month trial period for new users to get free music. During that time, Apple wasn't going to pay the musicians whose music is played. Swift's letter bit into Apple for this. She wrote Sunday, "I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company." By Monday, Apple changed its approach. “AppleMusic will pay artists for streaming, even during customers’ free trial period,” Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, tweeted late Sunday. Swift touted the victory just as quickly. "I am elated and relieved. Thank you for your words of support today. They listened to us," she tweeted.
