Hundreds of nighttime, torchlight demonstrations have been held in Honduras to protest the corruption scandal rocking the country. About US$350 million was embezzled from the social security and health care system, with much of the funds used to finance the ruling National Party and President Juan Hernandez' 2013 election campaigns. The social movement that has emerged, with participants from different professions and classes, has become known as the "Demonstration of Torches", with the torches symbolizing patients who have lost their lives due to the shortage of medicines provoked by the theft. A fuller report will be broadcast in next week's edition of "Inside the Americas". teleSUR
