Peru: 1.6 Million Child Laborers Working in Harsh Conditions

Yesterday, June 12, was World Day Against Child Labor. Over 1.6 million children work in Peru, and often at more hours than are permitted under the law, for less than the minimum wage, and in harsh conditions. Many start working at the age of five and never get to go to school. Despite some efforts by the government and NGOs to remedy the situation, Peru ranks number two in Latin America in child labor.
