Jordan 'needs more assistance' from international community for Syrian refugees
  • 9 years ago
Imad Najib Fakhoury, the Jordanian minister of international cooperation, spoke to FRANCE 24's Marc Perelman on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Jordan.
Imad Najib Fakhoury calls for "more assistance" from the international community to help Jordan with its 1.4 million Syrian refugees. "The aid that has been coming in is not catching up and keeping up with the increasing needs of the refugee population", he explains.
Regarding the fight against the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq, in light of recent setbacks for the US-led coalition, he believes that a long-term approach is necessary.
"We all understand very clearly that this battle against extremists is not a short-term battle. The military component of it is going to take months, a year to two... But the long-term countering of their ideology is something that’s going to take a very long period and requires a very holistic approach".
