A recent census of Mozambique’s elephants has revealed that the population has dwindled by nearly half, or 48 percent, over the past five years due to poachers.
Startling numbers have been released about Mozambique’s elephant population.
The preliminary results of a recent government census indicate that in the past five years, nearly half, or 48 percent, of its elephants have been lost largely due to poachers seeking out their valuable ivory.
The animals currently number around 10,300 compared to more than 20,000 previously.
