U2News - Song For Someone (Live) - Red Nose Day

U2 performed “Song For Someone” during one of many emotional segments on Thursday’s Red Nose Day telethon. Check out the video.

As Gossip Cop reported, the event, being held for the first time in the United States after three decades of fundraising in the U.K., raises money to support charities helping children living in poverty in America and abroad. The star-studded broadcast featured a mix of pre-taped appearances from stars like Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Aniston, as well as live segments inside New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom with Seth Meyers, Gwyneth Paltrow and more. Shortly before U2 performed, Julianne Moore showcased footage from Jack Black’s stunning trip to Uganda, where he met with a homeless child who wanted to come back to the U.S. with him.

After that, Elisabeth Moss introduced U2’s special performance, noting that it was specifically created for Red Nose Day. “Tonight it’s a song for anyone who supports Red Nose Day, all across America,” said Bono. “For Red Nose Day has come to America.” As Bono and the rest of the band performed, the telethon cut back and forth between the stage and moving clips of suffering children. The special appearance came less than a week after U2 kicked off its “Innocence + Experience” tour, where, as Gossip Cop reported, The Edge fell off the stage. Thankfully, there were no such mishaps this time around.

In addition to U2, Ed Sheeran performed “The Rainbow Connection” with Kermit the Frog, while Sawyer Fredericks, who won “The Voice” earlier this week, sang “Imagine.” Watch U2 doing “Song For Someone” below, and tell us what you think.
