French secondary school teachers took to the streets on Tuesday, encouraged by the conservative opposition, to express concern that a proposed reform to overhaul the secondary school curriculum would do more harm than good.
French Education Minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem argues that the reform, which aims at giving teachers more flexibility and changing the rules for teaching foreign languages, is necessary to improve a system that has long been the pride of France but is now lagging behind many of its Western equivalents.
