Defense volunteer Yuharee Walong, 28, was only slightly wounded, while Esor Lateh, 57, was critically injured.

The bomb explosion took place on a local road in the Cho-airong district of Narathiwat province, according to police.

Walong said he was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by Lateh, returning home after escort duty, when a bomb hidden on the roadside exploded. Police say separatist militants are responsible for the blast.
