Eight Afghan civilians were shot dead on their way to work at a US military base south of Kabul, Afghanistan on July 18. It was reported that the eight Afghan workers, aged between 15 and 25, were on on their way to Camp Shank in Logar province when Taliban gunmen stopped their vehicle. They were forced out of the vehicle and taken to a nearby village about 200 meters off road and shot in the head one by one. Their bodies were found with their eyes blindfolded.

This incident is said to be the deadliest attack since Afghanistan started observing the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, a traditional time of prayer and charity. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the Taliban reportedly said they would increase their attacks during Ramadan.
