Venice Beach boardwalk crazy hit and run kills one

One man was killed and at least 11 others were injured when a car plowed through the Venice Beach boardwalk in Los Angeles, California on Saturday evening.

Of the ten people sent to hospital, two people were seriously hurt, and two more were critically injured. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash too kplace near 1 Dudley Avenue.

A spokesman for the LA Fire Department, Brian Humphrey stated that witnesses said the dark-colored sedan had "moved purposefully along the boardwalk" and it did not appear as if the driver had lost control of the vehicle. One report said the car may have been moving as fast as 60 miles per hour.

The hit and run occurred at just after 6 p.m., according to Humphrey. Some people at the scene managed to take pictures of the event, with photographs showing the car was aiming toward pedestrians on the sidewalk even as they tried to run away. Other pictures showed the aftermath of the incident, with dozens of firefighters helping victims, and booths and tables by the sidewalk overturned while hundreds gathered around. Some witnesses reported seeing a lot of blood and people being carried away on stretchers.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, who is wanted for felony hit and run, later abandoned the car. At around 10:00 p.m. in the evening, authorities told local media that one suspect was in custody and was being questioned.
