Submarine explosion: 18 feared dead in Indian Sindhurakshak

All 18 personnel, including three navy officers, trapped on board the INS Sindhurakshak submarine that exploded and sank in Mumbai, India on August 14 are feared dead.
According to local media, the Russian-made submarine was loaded with warheads. A small explosion reportedly took place in the torpedo compartment and could have triggered two near-simultaneous blasts. A fire produced by the two major blasts soon spread across the vessel.
Another submarine, the INS Sindhughosh, docked next to the INS Sindhurakshak also caught fire from the radiation of the explosion. It was reported that the fire was doused immediately and the second submarine, which suffered minor damage from the explosions, was towed away. A Board of Inquiry will reportedly give its findings on the cause of the explosion in four weeks.
The INS Sindhurakshak had just returned to India in April this year after undergoing an overhaul and refit in Russia, which was ordered after a blast killed a sailor aboard while its batteries were being charged in 2010.
