Denver Broncos Von Miller busted for urine swap fail
  • 9 years ago
Suspended Denver Broncos Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller failed in an attempt to cheat the NFL's drug-testing program after conspiring with a urine collector from Miami.

This helps shed light on why Miller's four-game suspension for breaking the NFL's substance-abuse policy was increased to six and could have been up to a year, sources told ESPN.

Miller initially was suspended after having some troubles with a urine test after an offseason practice. When Miller went to give the urine sample to the drug tester, somehow the sample was spilled.

After Miller came back later to turn in another urine test sample, the sample came up diluted and that was the reason Miller was given a suspension.

While Miller's camp and the players union were preparing to fight the four-game suspension, sources said the NFL, NFLPA and Miller's reps found out that Von and the collector involved had conspired in an attempt to help Miller avoid a positive test.

Miller apparently spends a lot of time in the offseason in Miami, and that's how he got to know the urine sample collector.

According to the ESPN source, the sample collector was "star struck." This led to the sample collector agreeing to swap another person's clean piss for Miller's.

The scheme was discovered when a second sample collector noticed that Miller wasn't in Miami at the time when his sample was supposed to have taken place.

It doesn't look like any money changed hands between Von and the collector. Miller's agent Joby Branion and representatives from the testing company, Drug Free Sport, declined to comment Sunday morning.

The NFL is now looking into new drug testing procedures which may involve fingerprint technology. Guess Miller took it too literally when he found out he would be playing at Mile High.
