Singapore crane collapse kills two workers

Two workers were killed and several injured when a crane collapsed at the National Art Gallery construction site on Coleman Street on Monday morning.
Reports said the crane was lifting a mini excavator at around 10.30am when the boom suddenly collapsed.
The boom and excavator fell to the ground, while concrete slabs attached to the rear of the crane came loose and fell on to scaffolding below.
The two workers were pronounced dead at the scene by trauma paramedics, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
One of the dead workers was a Thai national, while the other was from Bangladesh. It is believed the dead and injured were struck by the falling concrete slabs.
Three other men were seriously injured and are being treated in hospital.
The National Art Gallery is at the site of the former City Hall and across Coleman Street from St Andrew's Cathedral.
The accident is the second crane collapse at the site in three months. On July 25, a crawler crane tilted and its jib landed on Coleman Street, narrowly missing passing cars.
