Two bodies have been recovered from a small plane that crashed just minutes after taking off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Tuesday (November 19) evening.

The small Learjet 35 plane took off from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at 7:51 p.m. for a confirmed medical flight bound for Cozumel, Mexico. The pilots radioed mechanical problems before the aircraft crashed at 8:15 p.m. one kilometre off the Florida coast.

Two pilots and two passengers were onboard the plane. The bodies of one man and one woman were recovered near the wreckage at 8:45 p.m.

The Coast Guard and the local police and fire departments are continuing the search for the two possible survivors of the crash.

This incident was the third in a series of crashes involving small jets flying to or within Mexico over the past two days.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Cessna 150 flying crashed soon after taking off from Mina International Airport in Tampico, Mexico, killing the pilot and the only other passenger onboard. On Monday, a small plane flying from Nuevo Leon to Xalapa crashed in the mountainous region of Veracruz state. The pilot and one passenger were also killed.

At least six people have been confirmed dead in these flight mishaps.
