World Cup arena construction accident kills in two in Brazil

Two workers were killed during a construction accident at the stadium that will host the opening match of the 2013 World Cup in Sao Paulo, brazil on Wednesday afternoon (November 27), according to local fire officials. A crane was lifting part of the metal roof of the Arena Corinthians when it collapsed, causing it to fall and bring down part of the structure with, according to a statement by the construction company, Odebrecht Infrastructure.

The victims were identified as Fabio Luiz Pereira, 42, and Ronaldo Oliveira dos Santos, 44.

According to the company, the procedure had been successfully carried out many times without accident.

The 70,000-seat Arena Corinthians will be the home of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the collapse.
