Milwaukee grandmother Ernestine Aldana pulls gun on armed robber

A grandmother and store owner in Milwaukee foiled an armed robbery attempt when she pulled a gun on the knife-wielding man who attempted to grab cash from her register.

Ernestine Aldana is 48 years old and has owned the San Ignacio Market in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for two years. On December 14, a man in a dark hat, jacket and pants walked into her store. Security camera footage shows him grabbing a drink from the refrigerated section. Hidden up his right sleeve was a knife.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic male, about 35 and between 165-180 pounds, approached the counter. He brandished the knife and attempted to rob the register. But Aldana wasn't having any of it. She pulled a firearm hidden behind the counter, resulting in a brief scuffle before the suspect decided to flee.

It's just as well for him. Aldana told US media: "I believe if I would have had my finger on the trigger I would have shot, thank god it actually didn't come to that, everybody thinks it's easy to pick up a gun and shoot someone, it's really not."

Aldana was given the gun by her son. She has shot the gun twice before at a shooting range. Milwaukee police have released footage of the armed robbery in the hopes of arresting the suspect.
