A gunman who shot and wounded a student at a university in Pennsylvania late on Monday evening (January 20) is still at large, officials said.

The shooting took place at Widener University in Chester at around 8:45 p.m. According to NBC 10, the student was sitting inside his car in the parking lot of the Schwartz Athletic Center when an unidentified gunman opened fire on him. He was struck in the left side. The gunman then fled the scene.

NBC 10 reports that the student called 911 himself to report the shooting. He was then taken to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was in critical but stable condition, according to Reuters. CBS reports that the university says the victim was apparently targeted.

Officials said the shooter was still at large. All students at the university were urged to remain indoors until 6 a.m. local time on Tuesday when classes resume.
