A herd of 30 elephants went on a rampage in the village in Telupid, central Sabah, Malaysia, for several days recently, causing massive damage to many of the plantations.

According to the Borneo Post, the herd, led by a very dominant and wild matriarch, raided the village of Kampung Bauto. The elephants were determined to feed on all the banana trees and oil palm plants and were not scared away by loud noise and fires lit by the Sabah Wildlife Department's elephant control team.

Apart from destroying crops, some of the elephants were also seen roaming close to houses in the village, the New Straits Times reported.

According to Bernama, two of the four elephants were caught at about 9 am on Tuesday (February 18) after they were found to have crossed the main access road to the village. The other elephants were reportedly still in the jungle off Jalan Bukit near the plantation.

This marks the second incident involving elephants trespassing through the village in the last 20 years.
