Greedy woman sets boyfriend on fire with gasoline

Fifty-five-year-old Yiao Yun-wen (姚允文) was burned alive by his girlfriend, 46-year-old Chu Ruo-lan (朱若蘭) in July of last year after he decided to stop giving her money. The two met the year before, but Yiao wanted to end the relationship after realizing all Chu ever did was hit him up for cash.
On July 2, 2013, Chu was once again demanding Yiao pay her fine on a fraud case, and even transfer ownership of his house to her, but he refused to pay. So, Chu went out to buy gasoline and a lighter with NT$100 she had actually "borrowed" from Yiao.
After she returned to the parking lot where Yiao worked as a toll collector, Chu poured gasoline all over him and set him alight. She reportedly stood idly by, watching her boyfriend scream in agony until police arrived. Although he was still conscious when authorities made it to the scene, he was declared dead ten days later.
Chu claimed in her defense that it was an accident, and that she had actually planned to pour gasoline over herself. However, the police did not find sign of gasoline on her body or in her hair. The district court found her guilty of murder, and sentenced her to life in prison.
