A viral video showing the vicious beating delivered by two teenagers to a pair of University of Tennessee students has led to assault charges for the two young aggressors.

The fight took place at a Cook Out burger joint on the school's campus on February 14. Exactly what led up to the incident is not totally clear, but 18-year-old Antonio Burkhart says while walking past a table of people, one of the seated girls yelled at him to pull his pants up. Burkhart says he then told her to mind her business causing her boyfriend to react angrily.

Things became heated; it escalated sharply when the boyfriend slapped the soda out of his hand. But Burkhart says it spun completely out of control when the teen used a racial slur.

The cell phone video appears to shows the white teens reluctant to fight but it's not known what words were exchanged. Burkhart is heard yelling about the spilled sods and trying to calm his little brother and his own 19-year-old buddy Tank as the two become more and more agitated.

Burkhart's younger brother is seen landing a sucker-punch on the young man in the black jacket. A moment later Tank, named by police as Steven Wilson, an amateur boxer and wrestler, unloads a volley of strong blows on one of the students, 19-year-old John Buntin.

Burkhart later told reporters during an interview that the white guy's use of the N-word started it. His brother and Wilson have been charged with simple assault and aggravated assault, respectively.

Buntin was hospitalized with serious facial injuries.

Police say the Cook Out staff never called 911 even though they would have had time to respond before the argument came to blows.
