Former University of Minnesota quarterback Philip Nelson has been charged with two counts of felony assault after kicking another football player in the head, putting the victim into a coma.

Nelson was out with friends in Mankato's downtown area in the early hours of last Sunday. Isaac Kolstad was also in the neighborhood. Nelson didn't like the look Kolstad gave his girlfriend and words were exchanged before the attack.
