Petco, PetSmart to stop selling made in China dog and cat treats

Looks like rivals Petco and PetSmart are joining forces to protect the health of U.S. dogs and cats. Petco and PetSmart have announced they will stop selling all dog and cat treats made in China.
Petco has said that it will have all China-made treats gone by the end of this year, while PetSmart will pull all the Chinese treats by March 2015.
The two mega-pet retailers made the call after years of nationwide complaints to the US Food and Drug Administration that jerky treats from China could be making pets sick. The decision will affect all of Petco's 1,300 stores and sales on Petco.com. PetSmart also has around 1,300 stores in the US.
Since 2007, the FDA has received more than 4,800 complaints of sick pets and more than 1,000 reports of dog deaths after eating Chinese-made chicken, duck or sweet potato jerky treats.
The many cases involve gastrointestinal illnesses or kidney failures. The FDA's most recent advisory said dogs sickened show decreased appetite and activity, vomiting and diarrhea.
