Insurance fraud fail: Man attempts to kill his wife to claim 16 different life insurance policies

A man was arrested last month in China's eastern Jiangsu province after allegedly attempting to kill his wife to claim 16 different life insurance policies.
The man, identified only by his surname, Chen, had a kid by his wife of three years, but would reportedly get into constant arguments with his her and his in-laws.
Inspired by various TV dramas he'd been watching, he bought accident insurance coverage from 16 different companies for his wife and allegedly planned to kill her before the plans expired in order to cash in on roughly US$317,000 in indemnity fees.
Opportunity knocked, or so he thought, one night last October when he and his wife were washing vegetables by a river bank. But his conscience got the better of him and, remembering the high-points of their relationship, he opted not to drown his wife.
He instead devised a new plan. One that would only involve legally killing his wife.
Chen decided he would try to fool the insurance companies into thinking his wife was dead, so that he could still claim the insurance.
The insurance companies got suspicious, however, and began looking into the matter. Chen wasn't able to provide adequate proof of his wife's alleged demise and eventually fessed up to the whole thing.
His foolish, money hungry attempts to try and fool the insurance companies got him arrested and charged with fraud.
