John Maust (34) WAS a popular teacher at Arroyo Pacific Academy.

So popular, his own students stopped to give him a lift when they saw him on an Altadena street. But what happened next, landed him in the slammer!

Three of Maust's students were out for a drive just north of L.A. when they noticed their teacher, Mr Maust. He seemed no need a ride somewhere, and they had no qualms helping him out. Once in the car, it was a different story... The teacher smelled like he had been hanging out in the teacher's lounge with Johnnie Walker and Jack Daniels.

The kids didn't want to be a part of that scene so they decided to abandon ship. But Mr Maust decided to teach them the lesson about what happens when drunk dudes with the munchies don't get what they want.

One of the kids did manage to stealthily call 911, prompting the L.A. County Sheriff's Department to send a helicopter overhead which scared Maust into fleeing the scene. He later turned himself in, and is now in jail on $100,000 bail.
