Hong Kong McDonald's McNuggets may be made with rotten meat

China's meat scandal has swept more fast food chains in the country, now affecting McDonald's in Hong Kong as well.

The Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong confirmed that Hebei Husi Food Products Limited Company had been a McNuggets supplier for McDonalds branches in Hong Kong. However, as so far the chicken products seem to be conforming to food safety standards, authorities have not mandated the US-owned factory to stop supplying to the fast food giant.

The rotten meat scandal came about earlier this year when Husi Food's Shanghai branch was found reprocessing expired meats to extend their shelf-life. After Macau McDonald's was found to be using Husi products, its Hong Kong counterparts have also been found to use Husi chicken nuggets. However, McDonalds in Hong Kong have denied using any ingredients from the probmatic manufacture in Shanghai, saying that its supplier is the Hebei branch.

The scandal has affected chicken sales in Hong Kong Micky Dee's. It is reported that customers now opt for fish over chicken.

In related news, Mcdonalds in Japan also announced that 20% of their McNuggets used to be supplied by Husi Foods, adding that they have now stopped working with the rotten-meat-using company.
