Androgyne Dmitry Kozkukhov (Alina Davis) marries Alison Brooks in controversial Russian wedding

A Russian couple, Dmitry Kozhukhov, also known as Alina Davis, and his wife Alison Brooks confused a Moscow wedding registry office because Davis is an androgyne.
Same-sex marriage is a big no-no in Russia so you can imagine the look on the faces of registry office workers when two people showed up in bridal dresses looking to get hitched.
Davis identifies as androgyne, meaning he doesn’t fit neatly into typical gender roles defined by society. Davis feels more comfortable as a woman yet is attracted to females. Their marriage sets an important precedent in Russia where non-conventional couples often face hostility.
The head of the wedding register argued with the couple because in Russia, marriage is between a man and a woman. The couple insisted they were in fact man and woman until the registry finally conceded yet told the couple that they shame the concept of “family.”
Davis and Brooks encourage others to be brave in the face of this type of ignorance. “Be aware,” they say, “You can not be refused.”
