A yet to be identified man suffered a gruesome death when he tripped and fell into an industrial wood chipper on September 18.

The Phoenix Trim-A-Tree company sent his crew to work outside the Freeway Chevrolet car dealership in Chandler, Arizona. Two of the veteran landscaper’s sons were part of the crew that witnessed his death.

While standing on top of the wood chipper pruning trees, the man tripped. He fell head first into the self-feeding shredder designed to pull large branches into its blades. The tree surgeon was decapitated in front of his horrified crew.

The Phoenix Trim-A-Tree company confirmed the loss of one of their employees and is giving employees two-weeks off for grieving. Authorities believe the death to be tragic accident but an investigation is ongoing.
