North Korea nuclear threat: Pyongyang has many more nukes than previously thought

China has increased its estimate of North Korea’s nuclear capability while warning that Pyongyang’s growing arsenal poses a threat to international security and the U.S.
China’s top nuclear experts said North Korea may already possess as many as 20 nuclear warheads and it has the capability to double the size of its arsenal by 2016, the Wall Street Journal reported.
“We have been and remain concerned about North Korea’s nuclear program and believe China should continue to use its influence to curtail North Korea’s provocative actions,” Patrick Ventrell, a spokesman for the U.S. National Security Council told the Journal.
U.S. defense officials believe North Korea is capable of mounting a nuclear warhead on its KN-08 intercontinental ballistic missile, which has a range of about 5,600 miles and can reach the western edge of the United States, the Journal said.
The United States has mutual defense treaties with South Korea and Japan, meaning an attack against either countries is regarded as an attack on the U.S.
