Nepal: Health Workers Face Growing Threat of Epidemics

For the last twelve days in Nepal, health authorities have been trying to heal injuries of people hurt in the earthquake, and now they also face the threat of epidemics. In the primary maternity hospital in Kathmandu, women and children have no beds, and young mothers fear that their babies will catch a contagious disease. The greatest risk, says one doctor, would be a lack of access to clean water. In an attempt to avoid outbreaks of endemic cholera and diarrhea, some vaccinations have been administered, but the most many health workers can do is recommend that people boil their water. teleSUR
