Colombia: Hundreds of Thousands of Teachers March in Strike Protest
  • 9 years ago
Colombia's nationwide teachers strike entered its fourth day on Monday, with hundreds of thousands protesting in the streets of Bogota. The indefinite strike was called to demand a salary hike, as teachers wages are the lowest in the public sector, and improved working conditions, especially in rural areas where educational infrastructure is notoriously deficient and in parts of the country affected by the armed conflict, where the profession faces its own challenges. Middle school students are supporting their teachers' demands and have joined their demonstrations. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota. teleSUR
