Mexican Cartels Corrupting U.S. Border Agents Growing
  • 9 years ago
Mexican drug cartels are having a growing influence on US border agents. According to U.S. Inspector General of Homeland Security John Roth, Mexican organized crime has recruited or corrupted border agents through bribes, favors, and other gifts to allow drugs to cross the border. The Department of Homeland Security received 16,000 complaints in 2014, leading to 5,000 investigations. As Washington beefed up or militarized security along its southern border, Mexican drug cartels were able to obtain maps, information on the location of agents, and pass codes to access prohibited areas.
