Uruguay Says Last Goodbye to Galeano

Hundreds of Uruguans and world leaders gathered in Montevideo today to say their last goodbye to one of Latin America's most beloved writers, Eduardo Galeano. In an interview with teleSUR, former President José Mujica spoke of the intellectual's great contribution to Latin American culture. At a time when many looked towards Europe or the USA, he said, Galeano focused on us, thereby planting the seeds of the changes going on now on the continent. Meanwhile at the end of the current round of Colombian peace talks in Havana, FARC negotiator Jesus Santrich spoke of Galeano's role in moving towards a world without exploiters or exploited. Moving tributes also came from Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño and Argentind author Stella Calloni. teleSUR
