Lost at sea: Search continues for US Marine who bailed from Osprey that lost power
  • 9 years ago
A search and rescue operation is underway in the Persian Gulf for a marine who jumped from an MV-22 Osprey that lost power as it was taking off.

According to a US Fifth Fleet press release, an Osprey tiltrotor aircraft was taking off from the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island on Wednesday when it experienced a sudden loss of power.

Two marines reportedly jumped from the aircraft before the pilot managed to regain control of the Osprey and land it safely back on the ship.

One crew member was rescued and is in stable condition. The cause of the power outage is under investigation.

The USS Makin Island left San Diego on July 25 with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard and is in the Gulf region to support Central Command operations.
