Bizarre: Man pops out of subway grate, chucks smoke grenade into restaurant where actress was dining

New York City Police have released footage of a prankster who crawled out of a sidewalk grate and threw at least one red smoke grenade at a restaurant Friday night.

The man, who was wearing an American flag t-shirt, emerged from a trapdoor in the sidewalk in front of Bar Pitti and Da Silvano in West Village.

Witnesses said a waiter threw the smoke bomb back onto the sidewalk as the prankster escaped back down the hole.

Actress Rose McGowan, known for her role in the television series Charmed, was one of the unlucky restaurant-goers. She sent out a tweet that said: “Someone just threw two red smoke bombs into the restaurant I was eating in. Eyes are burning. #NYCWHAT.”

There were no reported injuries.
