Man commits suicide on camera: Tourist gets drunk in Pattaya, Thailand before falling 27 stories

Thai police were called to high-rise condominium in Pattaya on Wednesday morning in response to a report of an American man who was threatening to jump from a ledge 27 floors up. That man was 52-year-old Douglas Rex Rinehart from Missouri.
Before taking his own life, Rinehart left a note that gave authorities a glimpse of how he spent his last days and the reasoning behind his decision to kill himself.
The note talked about how Rinehart had recently quit his job and overstayed his visa. He wrote that he spent his last night alive sharing a few drinks with a girl he had befriended several years ago. He also said in his note that he doubted he would get any sleep the night before he committed suicide.
Rinehart calmly laid down the ledge of the 27th floor at about 8:30 a.m. Video taken by an onlooker shows and officer trying to talk Rinehart down.
Despite the officer’s attempt to help him, Rinehart was ready and willing to roll to his death. Pictures of the 3rd floor pool confirmed that Rinehart did not survive the fall.
“Yeah, that’s me down there,” Rinehart wrote, “Just thought I’d drop in.”
