Diamond heist: NYPD looking for armed Diamond District robbers

New York police are still on the hunt for two men who robbed a Diamond District jewelry store at gunpoint in the middle of the afternoon on Tuesday making off with $500,000 in jewelry and $6,000 in cash.

The robbery took place around 2:30 p.m. at the Watch Standard Jeweler store on the eighth floor at 23 West 47th St.

Authorities say the first suspect was posing as a courier wearing a trench coat, Kangol hat, white shirt and tie. The thief’s partner was wearing a gray hoodie, a red hat and True Religion jeans.

They robbers claimed they had two letters to be delivered, so they were buzzed in. Once inside, the slick-dressed one pulled a gun on the four employees and ordered them to empty the safe.

While the suspect in the gray hoodie remained in the hallway as a lookout, the gunman was stuffing cash and jewelry into a black bag with the letter “K” on it.

That’s when the owner walked in and the suspect pistol-whipped him with the butt of his gun and ran out of the store.

Police think the two made their way down the building stairs and escaped into the crowd.

Police locked down the entire area and later ordered people to evacuate. Authorities have released surveillance images of the two suspects.
