Court turns blind eye to domestic abuse: 16-year-old wife denied divorce by China judge

A judge in Hunan this week denied a divorce petition submitted by a young 29 year old mother, identified by her nickname Ting Ting, even though technically her marriage is illegal.
Ting Ting was working as a waitress during high school when she met her future husband. He was rich and flirted with her, lavishly spending money to buy her presents. She was young, too young in fact, she was still only 16 and not old enough to get married. But when he proposed he convinced Ting Ting to change her age to 20 on her documents and they were married.
13 years later Ting Ting, now the mother of two young children, wants out of the marriage. She told the court that her husband verbally abuses her and every month when he gives her the money for monthly household expenses he throws the cash on the floor and forces her to get on her knees to pick it up.
When Ting Ting began an online romance and her husband found out, he beat her. After that, he hired a PI to follow her everywhere she went.
Ting Ting also says sometimes when her husband is unhappy he will kick her out of bed and force her to sleep on the floor like a dog.
Yet, the judge has denied her a divorce, despite the fact she was a minor when they wed, which invalidates her marriage. The judge’s reasoning is that Ting Ting needs to be there for her two young children and that the bruises Ting Ting sports are not clear evidence of domestic abuse.
Ting Ting says she is will to try and stay in the marriage for another 6 months, but if things don’t get better she’s going to file another divorce petition.
