AirAsia flight QZ8501: underwater listening devices deployed to find black boxes

Indonesian authorities said international experts equipped with underwater listening devices joined search teams on Friday to search for the flight recorders from the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501.
Friday’s search for the missing was focused on an area spanning 1,575 nautical square miles of the Java Sea near Borneo. A total of 29 ships and 17 aircraft have been deployed in the operation, the Telegraph reported.
According to Singapore Today, two ships carrying underwater locator beacon detectors, along with French, Singaporean and Indonesian experts, left the port of Pangkalan Bun on Friday. The detectors have hydrophones that can pick up acoustic signals from underwater locator beacons on the plane’s flight data recorders.
Bad weather continued to hamper the search operations on Friday. Authorities told Australia's ABC network it could take a week to find the black boxes.
