Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai’s house and office in Hong Kong were firebombed by masked attackers in the early hours of Monday morning, with the assailants hurling flaming petrol bombs.

Jimmy Lai, the former chief executive officer and chairman of Apple Daily and Next Media, had only recently stepped down from his positions after being arrested for participating in the Occupy Central Movement in Hong Kong. At the time he said he wanted to spend more time with his family.

But the family’s peace was shattered last night when this man caught here on CCTV pulls up in front of the family residence, lights a homemade MOlotov cocktail and slings it at the gates. The fire was quickly put out by the security guards who were on duty.

A few minutes later two more firebombs were hurled at separate gates of the Next Media offices in Hong Kong. Both cars caught on CCTV were later found abandoned and torched.

After firefighters put out the fires police discovered that the license plates of both cars had already been removed prior to their destruction.

The attacks and possible motives for the attacks are still being investigated by Hong Kong police. No arrests have yet been made.
