Baptist pastor Eric Dammann slammed for bragging about punching youth for God during sermon

A Baptist pastor from New Jersey is facing harsh criticism for a sermon video that surfaced online.
In the video clip, Pastor Eric Dammann of Hasbrouck Heights tells the story of Ben, a young member of youth group who “didn’t take the Lord serious,” according to Dammann.
“I walked over to him, and I went ‘BAM!’ I punched him right in the chest,” Dammann boasts in the video, demonstrating with a hefty air punch. “I crumpled the kid. I crumpled him.”
Dammann then goes on to say he “led that man to the Lord right there,” and that such actions “might be needed.”
Since the video surfaced, internet users have called for legal action against Dammann, who is the head pastor at the Bible Baptist Church in Hasbrouck Heights.
Dammann sent the following statement to TomoNews regarding the video:
“I deeply regret my actions of 13 years ago. I do not condone abuse in any form. I chose a very poor example from my past and very poor wording to describe it and deeply regret using it. By viewing the clip it is certainly understandable how outraged people are. I acted out in one moment many years ago, it is not how I believe people especially a pastor should act. My actions were not reflective of Christ and the teachings of the bible. I was wrong, there no excuses to be made. I was forgiven by Ben many years ago and can only ask the same from my church, community and the world.”
