Local media and police officials say a recently retired suburban New York police officer killed two of his two daughters before killing himself on Saturday.

Glen Hochman, 52, who retired from the White Plains police force in January and was recently honored for saving a man’s life, shot and killed two daughters, Alissa, 17 and Deanna, 13, before turning the gun on himself to commit suicide at the family home in Harrison, New York, according to local media and police.

Hochman's wife and an older daughter were reportedly not home at the time of the shootings.

News 12 Westchester reported that neighbors mentioned Hochman was having problems with his wife, although this has not been stated as the cause for the murder-suicide.

According to David Chong, White Plains' public safety commissioner, Hochman served 22 years on the White Plains police force.

"The department is shocked and horrified by the news of this unfathomable tragedy," Chong said in a statement.
