Winter car crash: 100 cars crash into each other on icy bridge near Seoul’s International Airport
  • 9 years ago
Last week in Korea, the foggy conditions and the icy roads caused an almost 100 car pile up along a bridge near Seoul’s Incheon International Airport.

There were 2 reported fatalities and 68 injuries, some of the injured were in critical condition. It took emergency authorities almost an entire day to clear all the damaged vehicles from the 14,400 foot bridge because conditions were so bad.

The monster crash occurred in the Seoul bound lane and caused massive chaos as traffic completely ground to a halt as car after car rammed into each other in a massive domino effect.

The accident also delayed 18 departing flights and 7 incoming flights at the airport.

One of the drivers explained that he’d been driving slow because of low visibility and road conditions, so when he saw red brake lights in front of him he was able to stop in time. Unfortunately, the car behind him wasn’t. He said he could feel the impact of other cars as they crashed into the car behind him and all the collisions eventually pushed him into the car in front of him. Then he was pinned inside and could only wait for emergency authorities to respond.

Thankfully, there were not as many casualties as a similar crash in almost identical conditions back in 2006 which killed 11 and left 50 or more injured.

Winter’s not over yet, so remember to drive carefully.
