Amtrak train hits car stuck on tracks in Camarillo, California near Oxnard station
  • 9 years ago
An Amtrak train carrying 85 passengers bound for Los Angeles and San Diego collided with a car that was stuck on the tracks in Camarillo, California Sunday night, just miles away from the site of a similar accident that injured 28 people last week.

The Pacific Surfliner train had just left Oxnard station and was less than a mile from Camarillo station when the crash occurred.

Two occupants of the green sedan exited the vehicle before it was hit by the train at about 8 p.m. at the intersection of 5th Street and Pleasant Valley Road.

The car ended up in a ditch following the collision. No one was reported injured in the accident. It is still unclear why the sedan was stuck on the tracks.

This is the second car-train collision in less than a week in Ventura County. A Metrolink train struck a pickup truck last Tuesday morning, injuring at least 28 just 10 miles away from Sunday’s crash site.
